Custom-Made Foot Orthotics
If you have foot pain, knee pain, or back pain, orthotics may help. Our chiropodist will perform a detailed assessment of your feet and gait before recommending a pair of orthotics customized to your specific needs. We will also provide adjustments to the orthotics if needed - at no extra cost!
We now proudly offer German custom-made EVA orthotics from Orthogenics laboratory, and offer 3D scanning technology to accurately capture your feet.
What are EVA orthotics?
EVA orthotics are a full-contact German-engineered orthotic utilizing the same technology found inside the soles of high-performance running shoes such as New Balance and Asics. EVA, or ethylene-vinyl-acetate, is a shock attenuating material made from millions of air-filled encapsulated foam cells. As you apply weight to the foot, EVA orthotics are able to absorb shock up to 3x your body weight before it reaches your feet, ankles, knees, hip, and back. This makes the device much more comfortable and natural compared to the traditional hard plastic orthotic. EVA orthotics are hypoallergenic and lighter than plastic orthotics, but last just as long. They are also easier to fit into shoes.
Our clinic carries Bauerfeind compression stockings. They're stylish and comfortable. Also German-made, these stockings are good quality and made to last. If you have cramping or swelling in your legs, or simply have tired, achey legs by the end of the day, compression stockings may help! Ask your family doctor whether you would benefit from compression stockings.
Bunion Aligner and Splint
Bunions getting worse? Having difficulty finding shoes that fit? The bunion aligner is designed to straighten your big toe to provide immediate pain relief. Its slim design makes it easy to fit in any shoe.
Chiropodists can treat many foot conditions, including: calluses, corns, plantar warts, hard to cut toenails, fungal nails, and ingrown toenails. These conditions usually require more than one visit for complete resolution. The chiropodist will use a combination of tools, medication, and offloading (ie. change in footwear, padding, orthotics) to help resolve your issue as quickly as possible.
Foot Mobilization Therapy
Foot mobilization therapy (FMT) is a gentle form of manual therapy with the aim of properly realigning your feet so they can function better. FMT requires a commitment of at least 6 sessions, usually over the span of 3-6 weeks. During each session, the chiropodist will work to loosen the joints and break up adhesions in your feet which are restricting movement. At the end of each session, you will be given an exercise to do at home to stretch and strengthen your foot and leg muscles.
Cold Laser Therapy
Cold laser therapy is a low level laser therapy that promotes healing through the use of low levels of light. It reduces pain and inflammation to the treated area. It is commonly used for soft tissue injuries such as tendonitis or ligament sprains.
Ingrown Toenail Removal Surgery
If you have a recurring ingrown toenail that cannot be treated with proper foot care, you may need to remove it permanently with surgery. The procedure for an ingrown toenail removal surgery is simple - you will be given a needle to numb the toe, the offending portion of the toenail will be cut out and removed, and a chemical called phenol will be applied to the area to prevent regrowth of the nail. Recovery is quick as long as you do not do anything too strenuous one week after the surgery.
